Mr. Gatsby

Hello again!

So this week we are reading the infamous "The Great Gatsby" and I can not even begin to explain my excitement! When I was in high school I never enjoyed english or reading anything that had to do with english, but when we read "The Great Gatsby" I actually really enjoyed it and I was surprised.
I started reading the first two chapters the other day and I forgot how much I enjoyed Fitzgerald's writing style and the type of terms he used throughout this novel.
When you are reading the Great Gatsby, the way that Fitzgerald writes it makes you feel as though you are there in the 1920's era. I would have loved to live in this era, with all the parties and outfits and bling! I always thought that if I lived during this time I would be a flapper girl. Maybe that is why I really lean towards the character Daisy. She is the typical example of what a flapper was, and in my mind she was beyond gorgeous and had gorgeous things.
In the first chapter of this novel you are introduced to Nick Carraway, who is new to the town and goes to a dinner party at his cousin's house, whom is Daisy. There you sort of get a background about Daisy's "Fabulous" life, which actually turns out to be not so great. You find out that Tom (Daisy's husband) is having an affair with a women that lives in town, also you find out they have a child and it sounds as though neither parent is too worried about the child and it is just in the other room the whole time. Nick was not to fond about finding out about Tom's affair and he seems pretty uneasy in this chapter of the book with all this new information he has come upon.
I really forgot how much I enjoy reading this novel and I cannot wait to get more into the book so I can really grasp the true meaning of the story again!

Thanks for reading :)

  1. I was really excited when I saw that we were reading this book as well. It is one of my favorites! I have yet to watch the new movie because I am scared that I will hate it, and it will ruin the story for me. I am not a big fan of hip hop, and I heard that the soundtrack is made up of it. Ehhhh. Maybe someday I will come around to the idea and watch it. I do love Leonardo DiCaprio.
